East Lancs Railway 8th June 1996:
1 - D1041 makes a rapid standing start as only a Western can, from Bury at 1805.

Severn Valley Railway 14th October 1989:
2 - D100 (45060) picks up speed after leaving Bewdley and enters Foley Park Tunnel.

Great Central Railway 1st May 1994:
3 - Class 27 D5401 departs Leicester North with D8098 at the rear.

Mid Hants Railway 4th March 1995:
4 - Class 27 D5353 runs onto its train at Alton.
5 - D5353 sets off from Alton, as 212 (40012) stands nearby.

Warship 832 GCR 1996

Great Central Railway:
6 - Class 25 D7659/D4 (44004) emerge from under the road bridge at Leicester North. 1st April 1995.
7 - D4 (+D9019 at the rear) depart Quorn northbound. 21st May 1995.
8* - Warship 832 storms out of Loughborough at 1355. 30th March 1996.
9 - 832 sets off from Leicester North. 30th March 1996.
10* - Hymek/Warship double-header D7076/832 accelerate rapidly away from Loughborough at 1646 (the loco crews sporting Thunderbirds hats!). 30th March 1996.

11 - D7076/6990 "Witherslack Hall" pull out of Leicester North. 31st March 1996.

Battlefield Line 7th June 1998:
12* - 25067 passes over a cross-over and continues towards Shenton.
13 - D5300 (26007) departs Shackerstone at 1303.

East Lancs Railway 11th July 1998:
14 - D200 (40122) pulls out of Summerseat towards Ramsbottom at 1213.
15 - D345 (40145) departs Summerseat with another northbound service.
16 - The only two surviving Warships 832/821 (disguised as D808) pull away from Summerseat heading north.
17 - D1041 (disguised as D1013) runs light at the end of the tunnel at Bury.
18 - D1023 departs Bury at 1644, as D1041 stands in the background.

Severn Valley Railway 10th October 1998:
19* - 444 (50044) opens up shortly after leaving Bridgnorth.
20* - 444 opens up again after a 5mph restriction near Eardington.
21* - Clayton D8568 picks up speed after setting off from Kidderminster.
22 - D8568 pulls out of Bewdley at 1457 on a service for Bridgnorth.
23 - D1013 makes a brisk start from Highley at 1631 heading north.

Kilby Bridge (south of Leicester):
24 - As 56060 stands in the loop, a southbound HST passes by. 56060 then makes a vigorous start at 1931, and gets some wheel-slip. 31st March 1989.

Class 20s return to the Leicester-Skegness service, 1993:
25 - 20132/087 run round the stock at Leicester. 31st August 1993.
26 - 20131/128 are taken off after arrival at Leicester. 3rd September 1993.
27 - 20128/131 depart Leicester's platform l at 2121 with the ECS watched by a crowd of enthusiasts (the final 'Skeggy' ever?). 3rd September 1993.

1st preserved diesel-hauled railtour:
28 - D172 (46035) eases away from Leicester at 1304 on its way from Derby to St.Pancras (see front cover photo). 1st October 1994.

D9000 on the "Deltic Reunion" railtour 2nd January 1997:
29* - D9000 accelerates through a snowy Retford, southbound at 2024.

Pilmoor (north of York) 29th March 1997:
30 - 43061/057 rush passed southbound at 1852.

Stafford 14th November 1997:
31 - 37705 gets a train of nuclear flasks under way northwards at 0748.

Birmingham International 30th May 1998:
32 - 47805 (having replaced 37611 at New Street) departs for Brighton.

Oxford 20th June 1998:
33 - Virgin Trains 1406 ex-Birmingham NS to Bournemouth produced railfreight/red-stripe liveried 56019 heard here leaving Oxford at 1542.

In the driving cab of D9000:
34* - On our way back to Birmingham from Ramsgate, D9000 accelerates through Kings Sutton after a signal check and is then checked again.

Wolverhampton 8th August 1998:
35 - 47375 parked in a siding, is fired up.

50031 in the Welsh Valleys 16th August 1998:
36* - 50031 departs Caerphilly heading south at 1029.
37* - During a photo-stop at Pontypridd, 50031 is started up.

Stafford 22nd August 1998:
38 - 60046 accelerates through northwards (Roadstone/Tiphookrail working).

Leicester 29th August 1998:
39 - 58029 passes through on a railtour to Toton open weekend at 1148 as a St.Pancras bound HST pulls away in the background.

Stafford 12th September 1998:
40 - 37415 departs for Birmingham on an NWT service from Holyhead.
41 - 37415 makes a brisk start on its way back to Holyhead at 1242.

Class 31s running on Bedford-Bletchley services 12th October 1998:
42* - 31452 departs Kempston Hardwick for Bletchley (31468 dead at rear).
43 - 31452 departs Millbrook as the crossing-gates are opened by hand.

Leicester 21st November 1998:
44 - 33103 arrives and then departs at 1844 on a railtour returning from Cambridgeshire to Crewe.
